Ok, folks, LOL… I’m going to finally put it in writing once and for all—the answer to the pervasive question that blows up chats, book-signing events, and discussion groups and gets everybody laughing out loud… namely, where in the heck do I get those steamy scenes from (?) You know, the scintillating exchanges between Carlos and Damali, or how Kamal was able to take Marlene’s mind on the astral plane, or Cain’s subsonic rumble—“Devastation,â€â€¦ and don’t get me started about Big Mike, Rider, Shabazz and his fine electrified self, or bad boy werewolves named “Brick,†(ha ha ha—all right, maybe that one was over the top.) But y’all know what I mean. Invariably the conversation goes “there,†and it doesn’t matter if it’s a shy reader who sidles up to ask me in my ear or the bold and the beautiful who shout it out at an event like DragonCon with 300 people in the room—fact is, y’all wanna know.
Okay… here it goes, the unveiling of the trade secret that is beneath every fine hunk and sexy female vixen—Tantra. BIG SMILE.
Tantra goes way beyond pure asses and elbows, to put it bluntly. It’s a mind, body, spirit connection. It’s spiritual sex. Intimacy in the utmost. That thing that goes deeper than skin-on-skin hot contact and heats up the soul, stutters the heart, and fillets the mind.
All right, before you say, “Oh, get the hell out of here! Spiritual?†(LOL), I’m serious. I know I make it hot, I know the men last to some incredible lengths without Viagra, but it is possible at the yogi level. And these guys are supposedly in top form at the spiritual level, too—especially my Guardians… so, yes, Guardians do it better, ha ha ha!
If you go back to some of the more memorable scenes in the VHL, for example, these are all straight from the Tantra tradition…
Synching up breathing, a hand over the heart while gazing into a partner’s eyes (remember in The Hunted when Damali gave Carlos a heartbeat), on a mountainside in Tibet mirroring each others motions… the first V-Point where my heroine splintered at the cellular level and came back to herself, literally, weeping. Uh, huh… like that (BIG GRIN.) Most of what occurred had little to do with the fact that some of these characters had supernatural powers. In that first V-Point that the inimitable Mr. Rivera whipped on Damali, the only thing that Carlos’s preternatural powers helped accomplish was moving the couple into very cool locations, i.e. from a 200 foot balcony drop over the cliffs to a desert (true–don’t try that at home), but the rest of what he did was within the possibility of human achievement (ask me how I know—wink!) Nah… if I told you all of that, I’d have to kill ya, LOL!
But the problem with sharing the resources in any credible way had always been finding that information in one concise place—as I have books all over the house and more stacks of paper printed off from Internet searches than you’d care to hear about. However, I finally found an article (below) that does the subject matter justice. It’s not so lofty that you have to read it twice and go, “Whaaa?†That’s what made me decide to post it here, plus every example they used to illustrate a point, I used in the series. Incredible!
That might be a good contest one of these ye old days, to match up the VHL love scenes to the article, but for now that’s just a crazy concept still germinating in the back of my head. As soon as I scanned over the article I knew it was my silver bullet. So now when folks ask, “Girrrrrllll… how did you come up with those scenes?‖ I’ll be able to say, “Chile, go to blog post 8-3-07, ha ha ha, it’s like the spaghetti sauce; it’s all in there!â€

You know what? As soon as you said Tantra it ALL fell into place. DANG I can’t believe i forgot about that. They even talk about it in those “American Pie” movies or at least the second one I think. It ain’t hard to believe that it comes down to the spiritual. I mean sex is just a physical act. That’s why prostitutes and unfortunately a lot of men, can do it over and over and not really care. When you add emotions to it is when it (sex) is REALLY REALLY good. Don’t get me wrong, you can have a one night stand that rocks your world, but nothing tops looking into the eyes of the man or woman while yall are going at it. WHEW!

Tantra!! I have skimmed the literature, but never really tried it out for myself. I was always into the Kama Sutra and the Deist aspects of love making, but I can defiantly add a tantra into the mix. After all I am young; my heart can take it. LOL.

Tantra—wow, yeah that definitely explains it. By the way, I really enjoyed the excerpt for Bad Blood! You do seem to enjoy teasing us–you know, if you resided in the ATL area, I would be knocking on your door frequently (possibly everyday or at least every other day) asking for a “fix!” Seriously, you would need to have Books/BTBs/Short Stories or something prepared and ready to just hand out when I come by, as you have made me an addict of your stories! LOL.
Also, I believe there was supposed to be a paranormal anthology titled “Hot As Hell” featuring you, Kim Harrison, Susan Krinard, Keri Arthur, Carrie Vaughn, etc., and it was my understanding that the book was supposed to be out in June 2007, I was just wondering what the update is on the status of the book, as it has not hit the stores yet–I have been checking with B&N and Borders, and Amazon online—and it is not listed. So I was hoping you could give an update on the book.
Okay, well…hmm…you know, 2008 is kind of far away…so, I was just wondering…if it would be possible…maybe…if it is not too much of an inconvenience…and since, you know, this is coming from a place of love…umm…I was wondering if it would be possible to expect a BTB sometime before the end of 2007? You know, for the addicts already going through withdrawal? Actually…if it makes it more convenient for you…because of course, we don’t want to have you overworking yourself more than you already do…any of your paranormal short stories would be welcomed, even random stories/short tales like Brick’s story in Creepin’, or like Butch’s story in Vegas Bites (Heat)…you know…just in case you are not able to do a BTB for VHL…and it may be too soon for another short excerpt for Bad Blood—unless it is not?
Well, so I just thought I would…umm…BEG…I mean, PLEAD…uhh…I mean PROMISE A RITUAL SACRIFICE…no, umm…can’t seem to find the right word…but, you know…just to put the PRAYER…uh…request out there. Love you!

I just listened to the Access Romance interview and I am happy to hear that the VHL might have a spin off. (whew) I am glad to hear that; I know we have a year and half left, but time is moving by so fast. A spin off will be welcomed with open arms by all the VHL fans. I feel like I am being pulled in two different directions. On one end I can’t wait to read the book, but I don’t want it to end.(see how you have us all confused lol!)
Great job of making a clear distinction when the characters have sex. D and Carlos have a tantric experience when they are making love, the other guardians as well. However, you write the other characters sexual scenes as more of a function or just a down and dirty type of situation.

OMG! *Bows Down To the Queen* Miss Banks all I have to say is – you had me hooked from the very first pages of Minion. Boy you sure do know how to have sistas and brothaz fannin and a fiendin afta some of those love scenes – make us all wanna get bit around here. And now I understand why its not so much a sexual thing as it is a spiritual. These couples love each other on some of the deepest of levels and you don’t trivialize that shared bond in the least bit. Props to you for bringin it real smooth in the 9th book good lawd, I was mad after I got to the last pages, and now I sit, waiting for the 10th book and hating that there are only 3 more left! Kudos and please sista girl keep handling your business! I’m stayin in the light!
OMG, this is the first I’ve ever heard of Tantra. But it definitely sounds like something to experience. I just visited the website, and as everyone has been saying, it all makes so much sense. And lemme tell you Les, I can’t wait til the end of VHL. I love the series, and of course I hate to see the end, but my heart can only take so much, and Mama’s getting real tired of me screaming out loud and talking to myself all the time (LOLOL)! Did I tell you that when I read The Damned, when Carlos was going thru his drama, I almost went into shock! LOL, I said, “Carlos did what! Lawd Jesus, take me now! I’m coming, Lizbeth! Lizbeth, this is the big one!”
And at the end of The Bitten, I just knew I was gonna die when he, he almost, he was supposed to…well, I’m just really glad it didn’t end there like it was’sposed to
And besides, I’m also going to get No Trust this weekend, and we have the Crimson Moon series to look forward to. And I’m fitting to go read the excerpt.
